What Is a Tincture and Why Does Extraction Method Matter?

A tincture is a concentrated liquid extract made by steeping herbs or mushrooms in a solvent. At Graceful Mushrooms, most of our tinctures use a double-extraction method — both hot water and alcohol — to ensure we capture the full spectrum of beneficial compounds.

  • The water extraction draws out polysaccharides like beta-glucans, which support immune health and overall wellness.

  • The alcohol extraction captures triterpenes, sterols, and other compounds that won’t dissolve in water alone.

Together, double extraction ensures our tinctures are complete, potent, and effective.

Tremella fuciformis is the one exception. Because Tremella’s primary beneficial compounds — polysaccharides responsible for deep hydration and skin health — are water-soluble, we use a hot water extraction only. This method preserves its delicate structure while delivering maximum effectiveness for skin hydration and overall wellness.

Whether you’re taking Reishi for calm, Lion’s Mane for focus, or Tremella for hydration, you can feel confident that our extraction process is carefully chosen to match each mushroom’s strengths.
